Scopolia is the scientific journal of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History. It publishes original research papers related to the Museum’s activities in the fields of botany, zoology, geology, palaeontology, and museology.

Author Guidelines
- Scopolia is the scientific journal of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History. It publishes original papers related to the Museum’s activities in the fields of botany, zoology, geology, palaeontology, and museology. Priority is given to contributions dealing with natural history collections, research based on such collections, the history of natural sciences and natural history, and the activities of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History.
- The length of manuscripts is generally not limited. Authors planning to submit longer contributions are encouraged to consult the Editorial Office in advance.
- Manuscripts may be submitted in Slovenian or English and should be written clearly and concisely. Please use a 12-point font throughout the text. Do not use capital letters for titles or scientific names except where required by standard orthography. Generic, specific, and subspecific Genus and species group names should be italicised. Taxonomic authors of scientific names should be set in small capitals. For the format of references, please consult the examples at the end of these guidelines and the most recent issue of Scopolia.
- Manuscripts should be prepared on A4 pages, double-spaced (approximately 30 lines per page), with margins of at least 4 cm. Paragraphs should be indicated by indentation.
- Manuscripts should be submitted electronically as an e-mail attachment to uprava@pms-lj.si, with “Scopolia” in the subject line. Large image files should be sent separately (e.g. via WeTransfer or a similar file transfer service) and should not be attached to the e-mail.
- The title should be concise and informative. In addition to the author’s name, the manuscript should include the full affiliation (or residential address, where appropriate) in the language of the manuscript.
- Please provide five keywords.
- An abstract of no more than 300 words should be provided in both Slovenian and English.
- Longer papers should include a table of contents at the beginning of the manuscript.
- The summary should be concise. If the manuscript is written in Slovenian, the summary should be in English or German, accompanied by a Slovenian version. Conversely, manuscripts written in English or German should include a Slovenian summary.
- Authors are requested to follow the style of the latest issue of Scopolia when preparing manuscripts and references. All numbers in the reference list should be given in Arabic numerals.
- Both black-and-white and colour illustrations are accepted in electronic format. The minimum resolution is 300 dpi. Authors should ensure that lettering and image dimensions remain legible after reduction to the journal’s page size.
- Tables should, wherever possible, be prepared in portrait orientation and placed on separate pages.
- Figures, photographs, drawings, and tables should be numbered consecutively. Their approximate position should be indicated within the manuscript.
- Captions for figures and tables should be provided separately from the main text and written in both Slovenian and English.
- The first proof will be sent to the author for correction. Further proofs will be supplied only upon request.
- No honoraria are paid for published articles. The corresponding author (or corresponding author, in the case of multiple authors) will receive 50 complimentary printed copies of the issue in which the paper appears. Additional copies may be ordered directly from the publisher.
