Rhythm Of Life
The science of Rhythms in our lives
RhythmOfLife – Exploring Rhythms in Nature and Human Life is a Horizon Europe project that brings together ten Slovenian organizations and brings science closer to the general public through the rhythms we encounter every day. In 2026 and 2027, through European Researchers’ Night and Researchers in Schools activities, the project will connect researchers with children, youth, families, teachers, and other groups across Slovenia. https://projects.nib.si/rhythmoflife/short-description/

Purpose and main objective
The main goal of the RhythmOfLife project is to foster a closer connection between research and the general public. Particular emphasis is placed on families, children, primary and secondary school students, teachers, university students, and adults, as well as on groups with limited access to science—including the elderly, children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, children and adults with special needs, and migrants.
The project aims to present science as accessible, understandable, and relevant to everyday life. By exploring rhythms in nature, ecosystems, human life, science, technology, and society, it introduces visitors to scientific principles and the importance of research for health, the environment, and society.
to increase the visibility of researchers, research, and innovation among the general public;
to bring scientific content closer to people through topics they know from everyday life;
to encourage direct contact between researchers, primary and secondary school students, teachers, families, and other visitors;
to strengthen scientific literacy, curiosity, and trust in the research process;
to introduce diverse research and career paths to young people;
to ensure inclusive activities also for groups with more difficult access to scientific content;
to reach up to 900,000 people through the awareness campaign and at least 25,000 event participants of the Researchers’ Night in Slovenia in 2026 and 2027.
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT AT WORKSTATIONS
Two main sets of activities
1. Researchers’ Night
Researchers’ Night takes place on the last Friday of September in 2026 and 2027. Activities are planned in Ljubljana, Celje, Novo mesto, Piran, and Koper, as well as in smaller towns, including Lovrenc na Pohorju, Ruše, Vitanje, Podsreda, and Trenta.
2. Researchers in Schools
The “Researchers in Schools” activities are taking place throughout 2026 and 2027. Researchers visit kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, institutions for people with special needs, centers for immigrants, and other communities. Groups also visit research institutions, including NIB in Ljubljana and Piran, and LabTOP in Novo Mesto.
