Wich are the birds that soar high in the sky, plunge dizzyingly toward their prey, or deftly catch it in midair? For all of us bound to the ground, there is no choice but to learn to recognize them by their bellies and the undersides of their wings. Birds of prey and falcons—raptorial birds—we observe from below, while they reign above us.
Now they do so on the museum sky as well. The shadows they cast on the ground are equipped with names and QR codes that reveal details about their identification, characteristics, life, diet, distribution, conservation status, and the history of their discovery. We have named the new permanent exhibition Raptorium. With it, we lift the birds into the sky—and the human gaze as well. As it should be.
The exhibition was prepared by curators of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History, Assist. Prof. Dr. Al Vrezec and Doroteja Fon.
