Miocene starfish

Fossilised starfish are extremely rare in Slovenia, especially since their bodies decompose quickly after death. Therefore, the discovery of an almost completely preserved Miocene starfish in the Zgornja Kungota area was a significant paleontological find. Preserved on a slab of grey sandstone, the starfish is among the most beautiful Slovenian fossils. Paleontologists are still studying to which species the presented fossil starfish belongs.
