On occasion of the Easter holidays, we present some of the eggs and specimens of vertebrates kept in the collections of the Slovenian Museum of Natural History. Vertebrates’ eggs are highly diverse. All birds, with no exception, lay eggs. Yet crocodiles, which are related to birds, also lay eggs, as do turtles and, with rare viviparous exceptions, lizards and snakes. Actually, the majority of vertebrates lay eggs, including lampreys, cartilaginous fish, bony fish and amphibians, and even few mammals. In the exhibition you can see specimens and eggs of the Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus), Hermann’s Tortoise (Testudo hermanni), American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), Grass Snake (Natrix natrix), Nile Monitor (Varanus niloticus), Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Nurse Hound (Scyliorhinus stellaris) and Common Frog (Rana temporaria).
