Research and collections

Slovenian Museum of Natural History preserves, researches, communicates tangible and intangible heritage of natural origin and biodiversity. Museum is justified by zoological, botanical and geological collections, which are supplemented on the basis of the collection policy.

Collecting policy of the museum as a national treasury of biodiversity and geological heritage of the Republic of Slovenia declares systematic collection of cultural heritage of natural origin mainly in the territory of Slovenia. In addition to the cultural heritage of natural origin from the territory of Slovenia, the museum also collects material which is extremely important for Slovenian territory or to the movable heritage of Slovenian Museum of Natural Heritage due to technical, scientific, cultural or historical reasons.
